HMS SPEY CONDUCTS QUICK DRAW EXERCISE - JAPAN
HMS Spey joined the large scale multi-national exercise off the coast of Japan.
HMS Spey, a Royal Navy Batch 2 Offshore Patrol Vessel, joined other units from Canada and Australia to work alongside the Japanese Maritime Self Defence Force and US Navy for Exercise Keen Sword. The exercise is Japanese and US run involving more than 36,000 personnel across Japanese waters, land and airspace.
During the Amphibious Phase of the exercise where a combination of US and Japanese units conducted landings ashore, HMS Spey carried out Guard Ship duties. As part of the exercise, HMS Spey was (simulated) attacked by fast moving unidentified surface vessels during which, the Upper Deck Gun Crews engaged the contact with a combination of 0.5” Calibre Heavy Machine Guns and Mini-Guns.
